Staying Healthy with juicing

Juicing ingredients

I like to just see what I can use in my juices. These ingredients are just what I currently have.  There doesn’t need to be a recipe, just whatever you feel you need for that day, whether it is more fruits or more vegetables or a mix of both.

  • 1 whole Apple – cubed
  • Handful of Grapes – cut up
  • 3/4 c goji berries
  • Coconut water (fill up to the max level of NutriBullet cup)
  • 2 tsp flax seeds
  • 1 scoop of Patriot Power Greens Powder Berry Flavor

In this case, since the Patriot Power Greens powder already contains a lot of greens, I opted to add more fruits to my juice.

Here are some information and benefits of the ingredients I incorporated in my juice.

Goji Berries are a shrub, native to China and have been eaten for generations.  It is believed to be effective for life longevity.  They have been used to treat many ailments like diabetes, high blood pressure, fever, and age related eye problems.  They can be eaten raw, cooked, dried (like raisins) and are used in herbal teas, juices, wines, and medicines.  There have been some preliminary studies that lists the possible benefits which include improved well being, calmness, better athletic performance, and quality of sleep, and weight loss.  Further studies need to be done and duplicated before these conclusions can be drawn.  I tasted the dried ones before adding to my juice and they had a non-descript taste, slightly bitter, but not too strong.  I harvested these from my Mom’s garden. Thanks Mom!

Coconut water is naturally refreshing, hydrating, and has a sweet, nutty taste.  It is the liquid tapped from the center of a young, green coconut.  It contains easily digested carbohydrates in the form of sugar and electrolytes.  It has fewer calories, less sodium, and more potassium than a sports drink.

Flax seed was cultivated in Babylon as early as 3000 BC.  It is known to have a healthy reputation to be high in Omega-3 EFA (Essential Fatty Acids).  Each tablespoon of flax seed contains 1.8 grams of plant Omega-3s.  It contains both soluble and insoluble fiber types.  It is also known to have lignans, which are plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities.  Flax seed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.  Recent studies have shown to suggest a protective effect against breast cancer, prostrate cancer, colon cancer, and significant in lowering blood pressure.

Happy Juicing! Final product

It came out to be pretty delicious, and nutritious. I received the Patriot Power Greens powder Berry Flavor from my sister. She did some extensive research on different kinds of dietary supplements that boosts energy and fights fatigue.  It is packed with different fruits, vegetables and seaweeds.

Juices are great before or after my workout.

I hope, I have inspired you to try juicing.  It is a great way to get your daily serving of fruits and vegetables.  Share with me what you have used in your juices in the comments.
